The White House Hotel in Biloxi, Mississippi, traces its history to a beachfront boarding house established in the 1890s by a local judge’s wife named Cora White.
Cora’s little place became popular almost from the start. Over time it evolved into a grand hotel festooned with white Corinthian columns on a front porch overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. It did not hurt that it also sat on one of the main routes to New Orleans from the east.
This morning Jim and I woke up to a grand sunrise at this hotel as we make our way to Louisiana for the holidays. It is a beautiful place.
The hallways and veranda still echo with hints of the celebrities, gangsters, and ne’er-do-wells who once roamed these corridors. Here are a few pictures.
